New Delhi: The eighth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) continues to have a strong innings on digital media, with Star India Pvt. Ltd’s mobile streaming app hotstar grabbing 110 million views on the platform, three weeks into the tournament that started 8 April.
That’s roughly over 8.5 times over a year ago, when Pepsi IPL had generated 13 million views on StarsportC Cricket World Cup 2015 became the largest sporting event on digital media, hotstar is accumulating views for the shorter format of the same sport. Hotstar had generated 87 million views for all 49 matches of the recently concluded World Cup.
Hotstar, which has won the digital rights to IPL, expects to almost triple its advertiser base this season, with 60 brands set to advertise on its hotstar app and Starsports.com. Brands advertising with IPL8 include Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Housing.com, Arvind Brands, Freecharge, Samsung, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Levi’s and Karbonn, among others.

Hotstar is streaming all the 60 games of the IPL as well as programming original sports shows, including a made-for-digital pre-show called 20-Minute 20-Second Twenty20. It has also extended its weekly show, Juicy Half Volley, launched for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
Hotstar, the newly launched digital platform with compelling content across sports, TV shows and movies in seven languages, was launched on 1 February 2015. With more than 15 million downloads, the application has witnessed the fastest adoption of any digital service in the world.s.com in the first three weeks of the tournament.
